Why Pajama Plants?
I skipped right past an introduction when I started this blog, so I'm going to drop a quick one here.
Hi everyone, my name is Chelsea and I'm a plantaholic. I often find myself wandering into the garden in my pajamas and slippers and before I know it, an hour has passed and the hems of my pajama pants are soaked with dew and my slippers are covered in dirt. This is where my blog got its name.
I started my plant journey when I first moved out of my parents' house into a townhome. I got a couple of houseplants (English Ivy, Golden Pothos, and a Syngonium of some kind) because I thought it would make the place feel more cozy. I started by putting my plants in pots with no drainage holes, filling the bottoms with rocks (which I thought would help with drainage), and overwatering them within an inch of their lives. I started to realize there's more to it than just adding a bit of green to my living space when my Syngonium was on its last leg; I took a cutting of it and stuck it in water, just thinking that it would act like a fresh flower arrangement, and instead much to my surprise it grew roots!
After that accidental propagation discovery, we were swept into the pandemic and I wanted something to give me comfort and fill some of my time while quarantining at home. I ordered some more houseplants online, and slowly got better at keeping them alive and thriving. Now, I'm up to over 100 houseplants in my home, and I expanded to an outdoor vegetable garden for the first time this year. I thought that I would be lucky to maybe harvest one tomato and learn a lot throughout the process, but to my surprise we've actually had a thriving garden this year.
Watch this space and check out my Instagram and Facebook (both @pajamaplants) if you'd like to follow along with my journey with plants!
